UN must defend govt by people against rising authoritarianism

Limitations of United Nations is our limitations not the limitations of United Nations. But the members of the United Nations are under obligation to abide the UN Charter and Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The democratic right to have government elected by the people cannot be denied by members state. The trend of rising authoritarianism by winning the overwhelming state machinery as against governments by winning people’s vote.

The question is how the United Nations can play a role for ensuring its members to respect international obligations under the UN Charter and Universal Declaration of Human Rights. That is the complex issue that must attract the attention of the international commitment because good governance is good for all.

In the ominous background of increasing denial of democracy by capturing the state machinery or winning it on the side of dictators the state has to play role upholding the objectives of the UN. Good governance is the objective of the UN. The state machinery is too powerful with modern weapons for which the people power cannot assert short of civil war. That is not the option for the peace loving people.

In third world countries gun power counts authoritarianism as unaccountable irresponsible system is assured bad governance through state capture corruption and abuse of power. They create problems not within the country but also internationally.

Such inefficient and incompetent governments are responsible for joblessness and near bankrupt economy forcing the people to desperately leave such countries creating huge migration crisis in Western countries. Different UN bodies are tied to the refugee crisis. The flow of refugee is gong exponentially high. It is heart-breaking to witness the miseries of the migrant refugees. Then there are drug and human trafficking emanating from countries with undemocratic bad governance.

Under such unaccountable governments public needs are neglected most. The resources available must first be used to keep happy their protectors.

 The people are helpless and simmering in anger for deprivation and waiting for a miraculous change. Sensible people are special targets of such authoritarianism. They are not to be listened to.

Thus within the country there has to be a war situation making lives not only intolerable but also unsafe. The state terrorism is expanding because such unaccountable governments have to survive by overwhelming power of the state. That is to state terrorism is built such a system.

This is no doubt a disgrace that the public servants paid by the people do not hesitate to work against the people. But this the way the system works.

That is the why we want to see UN moral power to be used to demoralise and expose them. Such dictatorships are not one person dictatorship but dictatorship of the state machinery.

The UN as the world body is the world moral force. The international community cannot sensibly talk of peace and world stability if the UN does not use its moral force against the rising overwhelming authoritarianism fomenting problems to be met by international community then we have to admit with all the sadness our collective failure to establish democratic good governance as contemplated under UN Charter and Universal Human Rights.

The change of government in the United States is a great hope for the United Nations.
