The youth development event of the year in line with the United Nations Conference 2018 began at Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) in city’s Mirpur Cantonment on Thursday morning.
Major General Md Emdad-Ul-Bari, ndc, psc, Vice Chancellor of the BUP, formally opened the there-day conference. A total of 300 delegates, 10 committees, 100 secretariat members, 30 executive members are participating in the event.
In his inaugural remarks as the chief guest, Emdadul Ul Bari said, “Our world today is faced with countless number of problems that hinders the overall progress of civilization. I believe this Model United Nations conference in the simulation of UN Conference will impart the youth a sound understanding of intricacies, contradictions and paradoxes currently present in global politics.”
The theme this year is “Inclusive strategy to promote shared prosperity by strengthening security and ensuring world peace”
The New Nation is the media partner of the conference.
Event sources said, Model United Nations (MUN) is a full course event that
teaches the participants not only debating and writing skills but also develops their critical thinking, teamwork and leadership abilities. It is a model of the UN Conference and this extra-curricular activity hopes to develop deeper understanding into current world issues.
In the MUN community of Bangladesh, BUP Model United Nations Conference (BUPMUN) has become a benchmark event. BUP Global Affairs Council organized the event for the first time in 2016. It has upheld its legacy in its later sessions. The MUN enthusiasts in both national and international arena for its praiseworthy academics and hospitality adorn BUPMUN, they said.
This year, BUPMUN is backed again for the third time and hopes to create a lasting impression in MUN community by breaking the boundaries of expectations. The vision of BUPMUN is simulating the event; it encourages knowledge of international affairs, research, understanding of parliamentary procedures, analytical reasoning, problem solving, professionalism in negotiation, oral and written presentation of ideas, etc.
By working together as a team, drawing from the past and present, the goal is to prepare the youth for the future and empower them to be a part of decision making at all levels. BUPMUN transcends from a mere simulation to an actual youth decision-making process. It goes beyond a simple conference and ensures that the outcomes of our discussions and debates are presented, edited and transmitted in a clear and concise manner to the regional and international decision-making bodies (such the UN) and the world at large.
Through this innovative approach, BUPMUN brings a new vision to the MUN Network and to the other conferences of this type. The mission is to promote and encourage awareness, understanding, tolerance and acceptance of different people, cultures, beliefs and attitudes by organizing BUP Model United Nations conference. It believes that people’s involvement at all levels of decision making (national and global) is essential to achieve the goals of the United Nations through inclusive strategy to promote shared prosperity by strengthening security and ensuring world peace.
Together it aims to build an international Youth Development Body where the voice of youth is heard worldwide and make BUPGAC a true global family. Through its signature event BUPMUN 2018, BUPGAC has brought forth the ultimate podium for every youth, national and international, to explore, examine, and share one’s perspective with the rest of the world.
BUPMUN, this year, is lunching one of the most pressing agendas for the committees and the delegates to discuss on and solve. BUPGAC believes that these uprising cosmopolitan youngsters will bring out the best of debates and brainstorm the most feasible solutions to the agendas.
