Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq on Tuesday said Adama Dieng, Special Adviser of United Nations Secretary-General on the Prevention of Genocide, has pledged all sorts of cooperation in resolving Rohingya crisis.
“Dieng said the example set by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina by giving shelters to Rohingyas, was commendable and the world cannot keep their eyes close anymore about this crisis. He does not think that Myanmar’s stand on taking back the Rohingyas, has changed a lot. The UN will try to resolve the crisis by mounting pressure on Myanmar,” he said.
The minister came up with the observation while talking to newsmen after coming out of his meeting with Dieng at his office at the secretariat.
Anisul said he informed the UN envoy about Bangladesh’s stand on Rohingya, as well the activities of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT), of Bangladesh.
“I told him about the crimes, specially the genocides committed on the people of Bangladesh during our War of Liberation in 1971. I also told him about killings of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most of his family members in 1975,” he added.
