United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres has expressed deep shock at the death of three Bangladeshi members of the UN peacekeeping mission in Mali.
The UN Secretary General has also sent a condolence message to the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, said an ISPR release.
In a condolence message he said: “It was with deep regret that I learned of the death of three Bangladeshi peacekeepers and the injury of four others in an explosive device attack while escorting a logistics convoy in northern Mali on September 24.”
Recalling their contribution to the peacekeeping mission, the UN chief said, “I would like to express my appreciation for the contribution made by these peacekeepers in support of the implementation of the mandate of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA).”
Mr Guterres has also expressed his gratitude to the government for the invaluable support saying, “The government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh continues to provide to our peacekeeping operations, including MINUSMA,” added the message.
Three Bangladeshi peacekeepers to the United Nations have been killed and four others injured in explosions during a clash with criminals in Mali on September 24, according to the release.
Those dead were Sergeant Altaf, Lance Corporal Zakirul, and Soldier Monwar, Lieutenant Colonel Muhammad Rashidul Hasan.
Those injured were Maj Zadid, Corporal Mahim, Soldier Sabuj, and Soldier Sarwar. They were taken to Gao for better treatment, it added.
