UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has deplored the shooting incident that took place in Bamako, Mali, on May 25, during which a Bangladeshi peacekeeper of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) was killed and another injured.
The Secretary-General called on the Malian authorities to swiftly and
thoroughly investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice, Spokesman for the Secretary-General said in a statement recently.
The UN Chief reaffirmed the willingness of MINUSMA to cooperate closely with Malian authorities in this effort.
He expressed his sincere condolences to the family of the victim and the Government of Bangladesh and wished a speedy recovery to the injured peacekeeper.
Sepoy Nilkanto Hajong died on the spot and Sepoy Sirajul Islam sustained bullet injuries after the militants ambushed a jeep of Bangladesh transport contingent in Bamako on May 25.
