Bangladesh’s prominent cricket umpire Nadir Shah passed away on Friday morning at a City hospital after battling with a prolonged cancer .He was 57.
Nadir officiated in six Tests, 63 ODIs and three T20I and was regarded as one of the finest umpires and popular figures in the cricketing fraternity.
Nadir, who was born in an aristocrat family in Dhaka, made his international umpiring debut back in 2006 at Bagura, where hosts Bangladesh took on Kenya in an ODI match. Nadir’s brother Jahangir Shah Badshah was a very prominent cricketer in 80’s.
Former Bangladesh ODI captain Mashrafe bin Mortaza like many others in the community took to his social media account to put on a farewell message for Nadir.
“Nadir bhai, all of us will miss you wearing the folded short sleeve shirt. You used to scold me when I used to bowl and my front leg used to get stiff – Mash you are getting stiff. Come back a little bit. And there was no respite if I had stepped in the danger zone,” said Mashrafe in a Facebook status.
“All the times spent with you having fun chats – all have turned into memories now. You had asked for a sunglass from me but you left before I could deliver it to you. Stay well on the other size. May Allah bless you,” Mashrafe added.
