On the back of excellent bowling effort from seamer Umesh Yadav, India defeated West Indies by 10 wickets in the 2nd Test in Hyderabad on Sunday. The right-arm seamer picked up 10 wickets in the match, with figures of 6/88 in the first innings and 4/45 in the second innings. Required to chase 72 runs to win the match, India comfortably managed to chase down the target with both Prithvi Shaw and KL Rahul still in the middle, to clinch a 10-wicket win.
On Day 3, India only managed to add 59 runs to their total, taking a lead of 56 runs. Both Ajinkya Rahane and Rishabh Pant, who started the day with the bat for India, failed to score centuries, getting dismissed for 81 and 92, respectively. Jason Holder picked up five wickets in the day as India were bowled out for 367.
West Indies batting line-up suffered a drastic collapse, losing wickets at regular intervals. Sunil Ambris remained the highest scorer for the visitors in the second innings with 38 runs, followed by Shai Hope’s 28. Apart from Umesh’s four-for, Ravindra Jadeja picked up three wickets, R Ashwin took 2 wickets and Kuldeep Yadav picked up one wicket, as India bowled out Windies for 127.
With the win in the 2nd Test, India registered a clean sweep in the 2-Test series, winning both the Tests in three-days. Speaking after the match, the vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane praised Umesh’s efforts. “Throughout the series, we played well, everyone batted well. Credit to Umesh, he bowled really well, 6 wickets in the first innings, four in the second, he bowled wonderfully well,” he said.
