Convener of Bandar Raksha Parishad and City AL president ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury on Wednesday issued a 15-day ultimatum to scrap the agreement with Saif Powertech, a berth operator of Chittagong Port.
Mohiuddin issued the ultimatum starting from September 1 while addressing as the Chief Guest at a rally held at Chittagong port Gate premises.
Vowing to wage tougher movement if the agreement is not scrapped within the deadline, Mohiuddin said that they would not sit idle if the problem was not settled by September 15.
“The people have become discontent and resented as a vested quarter is hatching conspiracy with the premier port of the country,” said the former city mayor.
Calling upon to resist the people plotting with the port, Mohiuddin said that those who were plotting were enemies of the country and they were waging movement in the interest of Chittagong to protest at the irregularities.
With Iskander Mia, president of Dock Sramik Union in the chair, the rally was addressed by many labour organisation leaders of the port.
Besides, to press home the demand, the rally also decided to observe programmes including wearing black badge from September 1 to 3 and fasting from 10am on September 7.
