The dissident leaders and workers of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), the student wing of the BNP, gathered in front of the BNP’s Nayapaltan central office in the city on Tuesday afternoon again and staged demonstration demanding cancellation of the newly formed JCD committee.
The demands also included removal of BNP student affairs secretary Shaheed Uddin Chowdhury Annie and former JCD president Sultan Salahuddin Tuku from the monitoring duty of the JCD and withdrawal of the expulsion order against some of dissident activists. The JCD rebels alleged that the ‘incompetent and pocket committee’ was formed by the influence of these two leaders.
During their demonstration, the angry JCD men locked their central office on the third floor of the BNP’s Nayapaltan office. Earlier, the rebels locked the central office on October 18.
Later, the JCD men took position in front of the office again and chanted slogans against Annie and Tuku.
Led by post-deprived leaders Tariqul Islam Titoo and Ferdous Munna, the JCD dissidents continued their demonstration for about an hour. They left Nayapaltan issuing a 48-hour time frame for fulfilling the demands after which they threatened to resume their demonstration on Thursday.
Tariqul Islam Titoo said that they would continue their protest programme until their demands are met.
The post-deprived JCD men have been protesting against the new committee of the JCD since its approval. BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on October 14 approved the 201-member partial committee of the JCD with Rajib Ahsan as president and Akramul Hasan general secretary.
