A tribunal here on Tuesday sent a local Ulema League leader, an accused in a case filed in connection with the killing of a school boy after abduction, to jail.
Judge Abdur Rashid of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal passed the order after Muhib Hossain Masum, publicity secretary of the district unit Ulema League, surrendered before the tribunal.
Earlier, the tribunal issued an arrest warrant for him and ordered police to seize his property.
Abu Sayeed, 9, a class-IV student of Shah Mir Government Primary School, was
abducted by Masum and three other men-Ebadur Rahman, former constable of Sylhet Airport Police Station, Abdur Rakib, general secretary of district Ulema League, and police source Ataur Rahman Geda on March 11 this year.
The abductors demanded Tk 5 lakh to victim’s family member.
On March 14, police recovered Sayeed’s body from the house of the police constable in Jharnarpar area of the city. On March 15, Abdul Matin, victim’s father, filed a case with Kotwali Police Station.
On September 23, police submitted charge sheet against four accused.
