The government has appointed a British firm to upgrade the security system at Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.
Redline Aviation Security Limited has been given the Tk 732 million job following the UK’s recommendation after its imposition of a ban on direct cargo flights from Dhaka.
After the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) selected the company at a meeting on Sunday, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed said a deal with the firm would be signed on Monday.
“The work will start
today and end on Mar 31. They will send 39 people,” he said. The minister hoped the UK would lift the ban soon after the appointment.
The UK banned direct cargo flights from Dhaka on Mar 8, citing security concerns.
