UK for talks to break cycle of electoral violence

British High Commissioner in Dhaka Robert Gibson on Thursday called for dialogue among all stakeholders to break the five-year cycle of electoral violence.
Gibson said, he is not talking about dialogue only between two major political camps-BNP and Awami League-but among all stakeholders, including civil society representatives. The British envoy made the remarks when his attention was drawn at a function in the city to the political violence that claimed the lives of seven people and injured many more over the last few days.
Sought his comment over recent court rule restricting the media coverage of BNP senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman, the diplomat did not respond directly but mentioned that the UK supports freedom of speech and also responsibility. Gibson did not make any comment on the confinement of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia.
