UK can be good market for BD agro products: UKBCCI

Bangladesh can earn a huge foreign currency by exporting different agricultural products to the United Kingdom (UK) as there are enormous potentials of Bangladeshi agro products, spices and fruits in the UK market, observed a delegation of the UK Bangladesh Catalysts of Commerce and Industry (UKBCCI).
The UK based trade body today came up with the observation while meeting with the leaders of Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) at its conference room in the city, said a press release.
DCCI President Osama Taseer presided over the meeting while Senior Vice President of DCCI Waqar Ahmad Choudhury, Chairman of UKBCCI Iqbal Ahmed and President of UKBCCI Bajloor Rahman were present.
Iqbal Ahmed said that the bilateral trade between Bangladesh and UK is in favour of Bangladesh and Bangladeshi entrepreneurs are very energetic and hard working.
He urged the Bangladeshi entrepreneurs to invest in the UK also, saying that Bangladeshi agro products, spices and fruits could be a potential market in the UK.
Osama Taseer welcomed the delegation and said that the bilateral trade between Bangladesh and UK stood US$ 4377.52 million in 2018 of which Bangladesh exports to UK about $4 billion and import $388 million.
“FDI from UK to Bangladesh in 2018 was of about $371 billion which is 3rd largest in Bangladesh,” he added.
He informed that about 200 British companies have their businesses in Bangladesh’s different sectors including banking, energy, infrastructure, consultancy and education.
He invited British investors to invest in RMG, ship building, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, leather goods, ICT and financial market.
Bajloor Rashid said that there are 12000 Bangladeshi restaurants in UK and the annual turnover from this sector is about 5 billion British pound.
He also invited businessmen from Bangladesh to visit UK and share the investment strength of Bangladesh with the British entrepreneurs.
