UK BNP president’s Sylhet house attacked

UK BNP President MA Malek’s house in Sylhet has been attacked for allegedly criticizing and making indecent remarks against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her sister Sheikh Rehana.
Witnesses said on Wednesday morning, more than 100 Bangladesh Chhatra League leaders and activists carrying weapons attacked and vandalized MA MalekÕs house in Sylhet’s South Surma upazila in the District. Later, they also set the house on fire.
During the incident, the attackers chanted slogans against BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman and MA Malek. Some of the attackers wore helmets and masks, the witnesses added.
South Surma police station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Monirul Islam said police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
He also said that when they reached the spot, there was no one there. However, he has heard that Chhatra League activists carried out the attack.
On the night of April 27, UK BNP President MA Malek came on Facebook Live and insulted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her sister Sheikh Rehana in obscene language. His statement caused a backlash among Awami League leaders and activists in Sylhet.
