United International University (UIU) decides to allocate Tk one crore for its faculty members to carry out research works every year.
Vice-Chancellor of UIU Professor M Rezwan Khan announced it at the UIU Research Grant Awarding Ceremony 2016 held at the university auditorium on Monday.
Chairman of University Grants Commission (UGC) Professor Abdul Mannan inaugurated the ceremony as the chief guest.
Vice-Chairman of Board of Trustees of UIU and Managing Director of United Hospital were present as special guests.
Professor Abdul Mannan said, research is the key part of higher education. It helps create new knowledge, which contributes to build a developed society. So the research works should be of international standard, he said.
Professor M Rezwan Khan said, proposals will be considered twice a year to award funds in January and July every year (Tk. 5,000,000 for each call). The maximum allocated fund for a particular project will be Tk 1,200,000 for a 2-year project. Smaller projects with a duration of less than one year and between one and two years will be allocated the budget proportionate to their time duration.
In its January call, a total of 18 applications were submitted by the faculty members. A Selection Committee was formed comprising of the Vice Chancellor as its Chairman and Pro-Vice Chancellor and Deans two Schools as its members. The Selection Committee, in the meantime, interviewed the Lead Researchers and selected the projects to award the grant. Chief guest awarded 15 persons research grant and 22 persons letter of appreciation for their research work at national and international level.
