A Workshop on ‘Role of Digital Resources for the Enhancement of Higher Education’ was held at UGC Auditorium on Thursday. UGC Chairman (State Minister) Professor Dr. A K Azad Chowdhury attended the programme as the Chief Guest while UGC Member Professor Dr. Atful Hye Shibly was the Special Guest on the occasion. UGC Member Proferssor Dr. Md. Akhtar Hossain presided over the function. UGC Member Professor Dr. M. Muhibur Rahman delivered the welcome speech on the occasion.
UGC Digital Library (UDL) has been operational since July 2012. UDL is a sub-component of Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project. Thirty-eight universities including 31 public and 07 private universities have been members of UGC Digital Library. Ninety eight percent users of public and 18% users of private universities are enjoying the accessing of UDL knowledge repository.
From July 1, 2012, UDL is offering access to around 3000+ e-journals, magazines, conference proceedings, bulletins etc of three major online information resources: ACM Disital Library, Emerald and JSTOR.
All member universities of UDL are accessing high-quality and scholarly electronic resources at substantially lower rates of subscription as UDL has been offering subsidy on the subscription fee from the HEQEP fund. In order to encourage participation by the private universities in Bangladesh, UDL has been offering subsidy on the subscription fee also.
UDL have promoted rapid and efficient access to online information, use of ICT in teaching and learning to the users of the member universities. The Workshop was organized aiming at the expansion and expedition of the uses of digital resources to all the private universities of the country.
UGC Secretary Dr. Md. Khaled gave the vote of thanks. Vice-Chancellors and Chairpersons of Board of Trustees from private universities, high officials of Ministry of Education, UGC and World Bank were present on the occasion.
