A day-long National Workshop HEQEP Achievements, organized by University Grants Commission of Bangladesh (UGC), was held at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) (12.11.2015). Hon’ble Finance Minister AMA Muhith, M.P., attended the ceremony of the workshop as the Chief Guest while A S Mahmaud, Acting Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Christine E Kimes, acting Country Director of World Bank, Dhaka Office, were present as Special Guests. Hon’ble Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid, M.P., presided over the function.
In the ceremony, UGC Chairman, Professor Abdul Mannan gave the welcome speech and the thanksgiving speech was delivered by Project Director of HEQEP, Dr. Gauranga Chandra Mohanta, ndc, (Additional Secretary).
The Chief Guest in his speech said, “With a view to keeping pace with the present world, the quality of education must be ensured.” He emphasized on the joint endeavors among the university-industry, university-agriculture and university-business sectors.
The Special Guest said, “HEQEP is the largest project sponsored by World Bank”.
Christine E Kimes, acting country director of World Bank, Dhaka Office, expressed her satisfaction regarding the success of HEQEP under the leadership of UGC.
She further added that their support to enhance the quality of higher education will be increased.
Hon’ble Education Minister in his presidential speech said, “The Government always considers higher education as the pioneering field.” He requested all concerned to work together in a bid to develop the teaching system.
Earlier, UGC Chairman, Professor Abdul Mannan welcomed all present in the ceremony and revealed the steps undertaken by UGC to expand higher education, ensure the quality of higher education and increase the research activities etc.
Members of UGC-Professor Dr. Mohammad Mohabbat Khan, Professor Dr. Abul Hashem, Professor Dr.Md. Akhtar Hossain, Professor Dr. Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah and Professor Dr. Dil Afroza Begum and Vice-chancellors and Pro Vice-chancellors of different universities, distinguished educationists and UGC Secretary Dr. Md. Khaled were present in the occasion. Besides, the officials of education ministry, UGC, HEQEP, World Bank were also present.
