UGC declares award for clean, safe, gender friendly campus

UGC Chairman (State Minister) Prof Dr AK Azad Chowdhury at a seminar in the city observed that change of mindset; collective efforts and mass awareness are needed for clean, safe and gender friendly campus to ensure a congenial academic atmosphere. He also said that Bangladesh would make headway if we can ensure a clean, safe and gender friendly environment. He, in this regard stressed the need for introducing ‘UGC Award’ among the universirties for encouraging the universities to ensure clean, safe and gender friendly campus.
UGC chairman told this at a seminar on “Clean, Safe and Women Friendly Environment in Education Institutions for Sustainable Development organized by Bridging Institutions and Innovations in Action for Sustainable Development (BIASD) at Public Library Seminar Hall on Monday as the chief guest. Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique chaired the function.
DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Arefin Siddique urged the teachers and students to ensure clean and safe environment in educational institutions.  
Prof Dr Md Abdul Mannan, Vice-Chancellor, European University of Bangladesh, Prof Dr Mahbuba Nasreen, Director, Institute of Disaster Management and Vulnerabilities Studies, DU, Prof Dr Riazul Haque, Department of Development Studies, DU, Tania Haque, Chairman, Department of Women and Gender Studies, DU and Dr Abul Hossain, Project Director, National Center of Gender Based Violoence, MoWCA, among others spoke on the occasion.
