On an invitation from UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) the Chairman of the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh Professor Abdul Mannan left Dhaka for London on Monday to participate in an International Conference on Preventing Violent Extremism and Freedom of Religion or Belief.
Jointly organized by the FCO the two day Conference will be held on 19-20 October 2016 at the Locarno Suite of FCO. Inspired by the UN Secretary’s Plan of Action to Prevent Violent Extremism it is expected that around one hundred participants from Commonwealth Countries will participate in this Conference.
Professor Mannan is expected to speak on the measures taken by the government to curb militancy and violent crimes in Bangladesh following the Holley Artisan incident. The UGC Chairman is also invited to discuss with Dr. Shiraz Maher a researcher at Kings College and with Jonathan Allen of FCO on security and other issues.
