UGC Chairman gets death threat

The Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh has received a death threat from one Nur Hossain.
Prof Abdul Mannan, the chief of UGC and former Vice-Chancellor of Chittagong University, received the death threat through a letter on Tuesday, Dr Shamsul Arefin, Additional Director (Public Relations) of the commission , told the media on Wednesday.
He said that the man Nur Hossain wrote the letter from Savar by Guaranteed Express Post (GEP) service.
However, UGC did not say the reason behind the
threat, according to him.
After learning about the incident, Syed Ashrafuzzaman, Security Officer of UGC, filed a general diary with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station yesterday seeking security of the chairman and UGC establishments, the letter adds.
Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Sanjit Kumar Ghos was instantly appointed investigation officer.
According to Police, the one-page letter sender Nur started his first writing as ‘secret’ and mentioned that Professor Mannan was involved with Pilkhana rebel in 2009.
The UGC Chairman is also connected with a foreign intelligence agency and he earned huge money during his tenure as the incumbent status, the SI said.
