University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Professor Abdul Mannan attended the Chittagong University (CU) Alumni Association London’s Grand Meet held at London’s Mulberry Banqueting Hall on Sunday as chief guest.
Speaking on the occasion, the chairman appraised the alumni members about the country’s development in Education Sector during the tenure of the present government.
He said the country has achieved tremendous progress in expansion of women education and primary education enrollment. Besides, the government is committed to establish Accreditation Council and transforming the University Grants Council into Higher Education Commission.
Ms. Rushanara Ali, MP, House of Commons, London, the Vice-Chancellor of Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University Dr. Md. Alauddin, the Bangladesh High Commissioner in London Mr. Md. Abdul Hannan, Dr. Nurun Nabi, Principal of ICON College of Technology and Management and other eminent alumni members from Britain, continental Europe and Canada spoke on the occasion, a UGC press release said on Tuesday.
Professor Mannan in his speech also emphasized that the alumni besides holding such Meets should come forward to help their alma mater by providing scholarships and creating endowment funds.
A total of 250 former students of the university and their family members attended the programme.
The day-long programme was rounded with a gala cultural show.
