UGC Chair urges Australian scholarship for university teachers

Prof Abdul Mannan, Chairman, University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh urged the Australian Government to provide scholarship for university teachers of Bangladesh especially young scholars for their professional skills development.
Prof Mannan came up with the observation when a-three member Australian delegation led by Leonie Muldoon, Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner for South Asia, Austrade, Australia called on him at UGC office on Tuesday. Other members of the delegation included Mostafizur Rahman, Business Development Manager, Australian Trade Commission, Australian High Commission, Dhaka and Minhaz Chowdhury, Country Manager, Australian Trade Commission, Australian High Commission, Dhaka.
The delegation said that Australia is interested in establishing academic and research collaboration with Bangladeshi universities in a number of areas for enhancement of quality in education and research and also for skills development of the teaching professionals.
UGC Chairman briefed the members of delegation about the activities and functions of UGC and different components of Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP). He observed that more and more academic and research collaboration among the higher educational institutions and of Bangladesh and Australia are needed for expansion, enhancement and internationalization of higher education.
Prof Dr Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah, Member, UGC, Prof Dr Dil Afroza Begum, Member, UGC, Prof Dr Md. Akhtar Hossain, Member, UGC, Prof Dr M Shah Nowaz Ali, Member, UGC and Dr Md. Khaled, Secretary, UGC among others were present on the occasion.
