The University Grants Commission (UGC) has cautioned admission-seekers and their parents against pursuing higher education on 48 campuses of 12 private universities in Bangladesh. The universities are Darul Ihsan University, Prime University, Southern University, Northern University, BGC Trust University, IBAIS University, The Atish Dipankar University of Science and Technology, The People’s University, International Islamic University, America Bangladesh University, Queens University, and The Shanta Mariam University of Creative Technology. A media statement from the UGC on Monday listed the troublesome campuses of these universities. Some of these campuses have been set up without UGC approval, several others are having ownerships issues and a number of campuses, whose approvals have been cancelled, are continuing operations with court stay orders. The commission said it took actions against those universities running campuses illegally but the private university authorities continued to operate with court intervention. The UGC says this is making it impossible to take actions against the universities. –bdnews24.com
