UGC calls for project proposal for Varsity-Industry Research Collaboration

University Grants Commission (UGC) on Saturday called for project proposal for University-Industry Research Collaboration under Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP).
UGS made the proposal at a press conference at CIRDAP auditorium in the city.
Under the project, a fulltime PhD researcher will be provided taka 55,000 each month and part-timer will get taka 25,000 each month. A fulltime post-doctoral researcher will get taka 1,50,000.
Each University-Industry Research Collaboration and Industrial Research Project will get taka eight crore.
UGC chairman Prof AK Azad Chowdhury, UGC members Prof Abdul Hai Shibli, Prof Abul Hasem, Prof Mohammad Mohabbat Khan, Prof M Akhtar Hossain, project director and additional secretary Muhammad Jahangir Alam and World Bank representative Moklesur Rahman attended the press conference.
The UGC chairman Prof Azad said the project will help flourishing innovative ideas and will introduce a new dimension in the country.
Under the project, modern laboratory will be set up, he added. HEQEP was launched by the Ministry of Education in FY 2009-2010 with an estimated cost of BDT 6810.4 million of which IDA provided BDT 5984.8 million.
The key development objectives of the project was: to improve the quality and relevance of the teaching-learning and research environment in the higher education institutions through innovation and accountability within the universities by enhancing the technical and institutional capacity of the higher education sector.
The duration of the project was five years with closing date on December 2013.
Since 2011 the project demonstrated strong evidence of progress against its outcome indicators and is on track to achieve the development objectives.
Following the impressive implementation performance of the project and for maintaining continued achievements, the World Bank provided additional funds amounting to US$125.0 million (BDT 10000.00 million). Thus, the duration of the project was extended up to December 2018.
