The University Grants Commission (UGC) on Thursday allocated Tk 45 crore for 13 public and private universities under the Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP) for establishing quality assurance cells (QACs).
The universities receiving the fund are Dhaka University, Rajshahi University, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Chittagong, Jahangirnagar University, Islamic University, Kushtia, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, Khulna University, Jagannath University, American International University Bangladesh, Stamford University Bangladesh and World University Bangladesh.
A deal between the UGC and the representatives of the universities was signed at a simple ceremony at the UGC Bhaban in the city.
The ceremony was attended, among others, by UGC Chairman Prof AK Azad Chowdhury, World Bank senior operation officer Mokhlesur Rahman and HEQEP project director M Zahangir Alam.
Speaking on the occasion, the UGC chairman said the universities concerned will form the cells with the finance of HEQEP and continue it with a commitment.
