UGC allocates Tk 240 crore for 35 varsities for research

University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Prof Dr AK Azad Chowdhury on Saturday said the quality of higher education would improve if universities remain calm and peaceful, session jam free and free from criminalization of politics.
He said tertiary education will be first-rate and world-class if quality education and research would be ensured.
The UGC Chairman made the observation while speaking as the chief guest at the third round Academic Innovation Fund (AIF) sub-project contract signing ceremony at UGC auditorium. UGC Member Prof Dr M Muhibur Rahman presided over the ceremony.
UGC allocated Tk 240 crore for 124 sub-projects of 35 universities under third round, said a press release.
AK Azad said that the achievement of Bangladesh in education is very positive in terms of number but we will have to go ahead in terms of its standard and quality.” If quality could be infused with the number in higher education, our universities would be able to produce world-class graduates.”
He hoped that research sub-projects of Academic Innovation Fund (AIF) would be able to meet up this needs.
AIF is an important part of Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP) now being implemented by UGC.
UGC allocates money for different sub-projects under AIF of HEQEP project for teaching-learning and research.
UGC members – Prof Dr Atful Hye Shibly, Prof Dr Mohammad Mohabbat Khan, Prof Dr Abul Hashem, Vice-Chancellors from different universities including Rajshahi University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mizanuddin, Chittagong University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Anwarul Azim Arif, UGC Secretary Dr M Khaled, AIF sub-project Managers, UGC officials and World Bank representatives, among others were present on the occasion.
