Entertainment Desk :

This week marks the release of a number of films, both domestic and international. While on the domestic front we see the release of Udta Punjab and Dhanak, the Hollywood releases of the week include Now You See Me 2, Central Intelligence and Finding Dory.
The biggest opener by far has been Udta Punjab, possibly owing to the buzz around the film’s release, the run-in with the Censor Board and the piracy controversy. Garnering occupancies as high as 55 per cent in mass centres in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab, along with Delhi NCR, the film has registered occupancies of 35 per cent across multiplexes in other metropolitans like Mumbai and Bengaluru. With a solid start and a guaranteed rise in numbers for the evening shows, the film could rake in close to Rs 10 crore by the end of the day. With favourable reviews from the critics and possibility of a continued hype, the film can look to notch a high first weekend total.
Of last week’s releases, TE3N performed much better than Do Lafzon Ki Kahani, but both were bested by Hollywood horror franchise film, The Conjuring 2.
Witnessing a drop of close to 50 per cent on Monday, the Amitabh Bachchan starrer Te3n earned Rs 1.42 crore on Monday, followed by Rs 1.37 crore on Tuesday and Rs 1.27 crore on Wednesday.
With Rs 15.17 crore in the kitty so far, TE3N might be able to sustain another week at the box-office, before wrapping up with a possible lifetime total of Rs 20 crore. Overseas, the film has earned Rs 5.84 crore so far, taking the worldwide total to Rs 21.01 crore. Though the film was promoted with enthusiasm, the box-office numbers remain average.
Do Lafzon Ki Kahani saw no better fate than TE3N. Facing a 50 per cent drop in earnings on Monday, the film earned low figures of Rs 51 lakh on Monday, followed by slipping figures of Rs 49 lakh on Tuesday, Rs 42 lakh on Wednesday and Rs 39 lakh on Thursday. Earning a total of Rs 5.55 crore so far, the film is likely to fizzle out over the weekend to follow, ending with a possible lifetime earning of Rs 7 crore.
The Conjuring 2 won the box-office race last week. Enjoying next to no drop in earnings on the first day of the week, the film earned Rs 4.50 crore on Monday, which was followed by earnings of Rs 4.15 crore on Tuesday, Rs 3.70 crore on Wednesday and Rs 3.30 crore on Thursday.
Having collected a total of Rs 35.40 crore at the Indian box-office thus far, The Conjuring 2 can enjoy a week-long run in theatres, before closing lifetime collections at Rs 45 crore, approximately. The film is slated to be a hit.
