A syndicate led by University Coaching Centre (UCC) has been blamed for the Dhaka University ‘D’ unit admission test scandal.
The syndicate in connivance with some dishonest DU officials leaked question papers of this year’s D unit admission test raising question about the fairness of the DU’s admission test process.
The syndicate allegedly took Tk nine to Tk 10 lakh from the admission seekers in exchange of supplying question papers to them.
The admission scam came to the light when two admission seekers Tazrin Ahmed Khan and Noor Mahfuza Drishti, who stood fifth and 78th respectively in D units (science) admission test, came out unsuccessful in Bangla and English taken instantly by the examination committee after it suspected them.
As they become unsuccessful in viva voce, both of them admitted the real story behind their good results in the admission test in front of the DU admission committee.
“They obtained the question papers paying Tk nine lakh each to Arnob Chowdhury who taught them biology at UCC Bogra branch,” according to a primary investigation conducted by the DU authorities.
The DU examination authorities have suspended admission of the duo as they were found involved in the admission scam.
“We got the findings after questioning the suspected admission seekers who passed the test. The name of UCC is coming frequently in the question paper leakage,” DU VC Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique told The New Nation on Thursday.
“We will go for legal action against the fraudsters after getting the full probe report”.
The VC said also that the DU authorities also suspected several other admission seekers, who passed the admission test, but refrained from attending the viva voce committee.
The DU examination committee earlier handed over Ayon Kumar Das to police on charge of fraudulence during the admission into first year honors course under ‘D’ unit for the 2016-17 academic sessions.
He is the son of a UCC Jatrabari branch director who reportedly served question paper to his son before examination, according to the investigation.
Ayon was admitted to UCC Jatrabari branch before the admission test and stood 3rd in the admission test for the ‘D’ unit (commerce).
But he could not pass the viva-voce taken afresh after allegation raised against him.
He only secured five out of 30 marks in Bangla, the lone subject in which the examination was taken by the viva board.
Earlier, Ayon secured 27 out of 30 in Bangla during the test of ‘D’ unit.
As the forgery came to the light, guardians and admission seekers demanded for retaking the D unit’s admission test.
Shahbag Police station officer in charge Abu Bakkar Siddique said they released Ayon Kumar Das because the university authority did not file any case against him.
In an investigation it is found that a Syndicate took Tk 9 lakh from Tajrin and Drishti who qualified in the admission test in such fraudulent process with the association of Arnob Chowdhury who teaches biology at UCC Bogra branch.
Earlier, the UCC authorities released a video clip after ‘D’ unit result to claim their success.
In the clip, Ayon Kumar Das is seen giving his statement that he did not admitted any other coaching center rather than the UCC for his admission test preparation.
Denying the allegation, UCC group Director Kamal Patwari told The New Nation that Arun Kumar Das is not the Jatrabari Branch director but admitted that he is an official of Jatrabari Branch.
He also brushed aside his coaching center’s connection with question paper leak scandal.
He further said that if anyone found guilty concerned authority will take against them but UCC will not take the responsibility of any individual’s crime.
