Meghna trawler capsize: UCB official’s body found, SI still remain missing

The rescue team members on Wednesday found the body of banker Borhan Uddin who went missing in the trawler capsize incident during the storm in Meghna river near Sonargaon upazila of Narayanganj district on Sunday.
Borahn worked as Sonargaon Upazila Branch Manager of United
Commercial Bank (UCB). He served as Presiding Officer during the Narayanganj’s Sonargaon Upazila Parishad election.
On Monday, the bodies of the missing female Ansar member Rita Akter (35) was recovered from the river.
Now only missing person is Md Salim who had gone missing in the river with two other polling officials as they ere returning by two trawlers to Sonargaon after completing vote process in the center.
In the meantime, the Election Commission (EC) Secretary Helaluddin visited the insured men in Sonargaoan Health Complex and announced compensation of Tk five Lakh for each of the deceased victim’s families and Tk 20,000 for each injured man.
On 31 March, after the completion of the election of Sonargaon Upazila Parishad, the officials and employees who were carrying the voting material with two trawlers were returning to the upazila headquarters, reports our Sonargaon correspondent.
Incidentally, a trawler sank in the Meghna river with 19 to 20 passengers including Presiding Officer, Assistant Presiding Officer, Police and Ansar Ansar. Three of them were missing.
