Two trains entered the same line in Rajshahi’s Sitlai railway station area on Monday, narrowly escaped from a head-on collision as the trains were at low speed.
Sources said that the incident took place on the Rajshahi-Rahanpur route around 10:15 am on Monday. However, there were no casualties as the locomotive derives managed to stop the trains before the collision, Rajshahi’s Sitlai Railway Station Master Abdul Mateen said.
He said that the commuter express train from Ishwardi bound for Rahanpur of Chapainawabganj was entering the station at around 10:15 am on line number 1.
At that time, Mahananda Express, a mail train bound for Khulna from
Rahanpur railway station, also entered the same line, he added.
However, due to the low speed of both the trains at that time, there was no head-on collision.
Asim Kumar Talukder, General Manager (GM) of Western Railway said, “The platform line is generally kept safe at Sitlai railway station. But at that station, after one train was on the platform line, another train entered slightly. But no major incident happened.”
