Two students of Pabna Medical College `missing`

Two MBBS 4th year students of Pabna Medical College have been missing for over a week, said family sources.
The missing are Jakir Hossain, son of Kaunia upazila Muktijoddha Sangsad commander Mohammad Suruzzaman and also organising secretary of the
medical college unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League, and his friends Tanvir Ahmed Tanay, son of Nurul Alam of Shalbon area of the district town of Rangpur.
Family sources said Jakir went missing on December 1 while going to the college from the village home in Kaunia by a train while Tanay from the college campus on November 30.
Suruzzaman lodged a general diary with Kaunia Police Station on December 4 while the college authorities filed a GD with Pabna Sadar Police Station.
Sub-inspector Jahangir Alam of Pabna Sadar Police Station said Tanay who is a residential student of the medical college used to stay at its hostel-1. He remained missing after he went out of the hostel on November 30. His mobile phone was also found switched off.
Meanwhile, Officer-in-Charge of Kaunia Police Station Abdul Kader Jilani said Jakir went to his village home on November 24. On December 1, he boarded Pabna-bound ‘Lalmoni Express’ train at Kaunia Railway Station around 11:30 am.
He had talks with his family members on mobile phone even after reaching Gaibandha, the OC said, adding that medical student remained missing since then and his mobile phone was also found switched off.
Sourav Hasan, general secretary of Pabna Medical College unit BCL, said Jakir was organising secretary of the college unit BCL and he and Tanay are good friends of each other. Tanay was involved in Tablig Jamaat, he said. District’s Superintendent of Police Zihadul Kabir said they were investigating the matter.
“We’re looking into whether they went into hiding getting involved in any militant outfit,” he said, adding that mystery behind the missing will be unearthed soon.
