Two RU teachers punished over ‘communal’ questions in entry test

The authorities of Rajshahi University on Wednesday night have taken punitive measures against two teachers of the university over communal questions that appeared in the entry test under faculty of fine arts.
The decision was taken at university’s 474th syndicate meeting with RU VC Professor M Abdus Sobhan, two syndicate members told New Nation wishing anonymity. The two questions of the fine arts department’s admission test created a huge uproar of being communal. The question no 41 of the second sets read: “On which date the Myanmar Army and armed Buddhists attacked Rohingya Muslims?”
Another question in the test was asked: What is the greatest book in the world? with four possible answers – a) Holy Qur’an. b) Holy Bible. c) Holy Injil. And d) Geeta.
Following row over the questions, the authorities of the university formed a four-member probe committee to investigate the matter.
Professor Mustafizur Rahman, dean of the fine arts faculty and also the head of the question paper making committee, and Zillur Rahman, assistant Professor of painting, print making, and oriental arts department and also an member of the admission test question paper making committee were suspended for next 10 years from all kind of examination related activities following the recommendations of the prob body as the probe body found them guilty, they said.
They also said that if there would be no legal impediments, Mostafizur Rahman would also be removed from the post of faculty dean and Zillur Rahman’s promotion as associate professor will be effective after five years.
Besides, the university authorities also suspended an MBA student of institute of business administration permanently for assaulting a teacher of the institute.
Nahid Raihan was expelled from the university for assaulting Professor Hasnat Ali of the institute over signing an intern sheet paper, the said.
