Police have arrested two more persons in connection with the killing of journalist Abdul Hakim Shimul who was shot dead while covering a factional clash of the local Awami League in Sirajganj’s Shahzadpur.
Nazrul Islam, 45, and Hazrat Ali, 48 were detained from BSCIC Bus Terminal when they were trying to flee to Dhaka Friday night, police said.
Their arrests are based on video footages of the incident and information collected during the investigation, said Shahzadpur Police Station Inspector Monirul Islam, who is investigating the case of the killing of Shimul.
They were produced before a court, which ordered to send them to jail on Saturday, he added.
A total of 11 persons, including Shahzadpur Municipality Mayor Halimul Haque Miru and his brother Habibul Haque Mintu, have so far been arrested in the case.
Daily Samakal Correspondent Shimul was hit by a bullet during the clash on Feb 2. He succumbed to the injury the following day.
Shimul’s wife Nurunnahar Begum named Miru, Mintu and 16 others in the case over the killing of her husband. Around 25 unidentified persons are also accused in the case.
