Two more people died of dengue fever in the capital and Khulna while 761 new dengue patients were hospitalised across the country in last 24 hours until 8:00am on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has confirmed the death of 60 people by dengue.
Since January, DGHS’s Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) received information about 197 dengue-related deaths. So far, it has reviewed 101 cases and confirmed 60 dengue deaths.
However, the unofficial death toll is reported to be at 141, so far.
In Dhaka, Nasima Akhter, 48, died at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) around 9:30am, said Inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of DMCH police outpost.
Nasima, who lived in the capital’s Sewrapara, hailed from Cumilla district.
Doctors at Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) said a man suffering from the mosquito-borne disease died in the morning. The victim was identified as Ashiquzzaman, 37, a resident of Magura’s Shalikha upazila.
Dr Shailendranath Biswas said Ashiquzzaman was admitted to the hospital’s dengue ward in the morning.
“He died around 11am,” the doctor said.
A total of 761 dengue patients have been admitted to different hospitals in the country in the last 24 hours. Of them, 314 patients were admitted in Dhaka and 477 in outside Dhaka.
The Health Emergency Operation Center and Control Room at the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), in a press release issued on Sunday, said the number of patients currently undergoing treatment in government and private hospitals in the country are 3,226.
As many as 1,592 patients are currently receiving treatment in 41 government and private hospitals in Dhaka, whereas 1,634 people are undergoing treatment outside Dhaka, the DGHS data showed.
Since January 1 till September 8, a total of 76,714 people have been affected by dengue.
Among those admitted, a total of 73,091 have been released from their respective hospitals and clinics after treatment.
