Feni’s Sonagazi Madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi’s mother and brother testified on Monday in the case filed with Bangladesh Cyber Tribunal against Sogazi Police Station’s former OC Moazzem Hossain under the Digital Security Act.
Judge Mohammad As-Shams Jaglul Hossain of the tribunal recorded the depositions of the witnesses- slain Nusrat’s mother Shirin Akter and her brother
Rashed Hasan Raihan in the case filed against Moazzem under sections 26/29 and 31 of the Digital Security Act 2018 over recording Nusrat’s statement on his phone and circulating the video clip on social media with her consent.
Later, the judge fixed September 19 to record the depositions of other witnesses in the case.
Nusrat’s mother told the court, “On March 27, she went to Thana with Nusrat. Later, Nusrat was taken to OC’s room, but she (Nusrat’s mother) was not allowed to go into the room. After some time Nusrat came out of OC’s room and told her that OC Moazzem video recorded her statement. Earlier, her veil was removed.”
On the other hand Raihan told the court, “OC took his elder sister to his room and they were not allowed to get into the room. After coming out of the room her crying sister told them, OC removed her veil and asked her objectionable questions. He recorded her statement.”
On April 6, Nusrat, 18, was set afire at an examination centre of Alim examination allegedly by students loyal to Principal Siraj Ud Doula of Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa after he was arrested and subsequently suspended as Nusrat had accused him of sexually harassing her.
After fighting for life for five days, Nusrat succumbed to the injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital’s burn unit in the capital on the night of April 10, five days after the heinous incident.
