Two lakh palm seeds to be planted in Rangamati

Two lakh palm seeds will be planted in the district simultaneously. The programme was begun from yesterday. Government officials, employees of different volunteer organisations, teachers and students of different schools, colleges and madrasas will plant the seeds spontaneously at 10am in the morning.
These palm seeds are being collected by the district administration.
This information came from a meeting held on Saturday morning. Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Manzarul Mannan presided over the meeting.
Among others, Deputy Director of Local Government Division Dr. Prokas Kanti Chowdhury, Additional Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Abu Shahed Chowdhury, Rangamati Sadar Upazila Parishad Chairman Arun Kanti Chakma, Rangamati Municipal Panel Mayor Mohammad Jamal Uddin along with government and non-government officials, counsellors of Rangamati municipality, head of various educational institutions, journalists, representatives of volunteer organisations, were also present.
It was told at the meeting that the incidents of lightning have been increased in different parts of the country including Rangamati Hill District. As a result, the number of death by lightning is also rising. So the objectives of the palm seeds plantation are to maintain the ecological balance, protect the people from lightning.
