RAB says two persons, allegedly involved in acts of sabotage, have been gunned down in an encounter at Dhaka’s Jatrabarhi. The ‘encounter’ occurred at Matuail Kattherpool in Jatrabarhi at midnight past Tuesday, RAB spokesman Mufti Mahmud Khan said. But the two killed could not be identified immediately. Mufti Mahmud Khan said that a RAB patrol faced brickbats at Kattherpool area around 2am. “When the patrol vehicle slowed down, a petrol bomb was lobbed. As the RAB personnel got off the vehicle, they were fired upon and they retaliated in good measure,” said Khan. He said five to six miscreants fired at the RAB patrol, but most fled after a while, leaving behind two bullet-riddled bodies. When the two were brought to Dhaka Medical College and Hospitals, doctors declared them dead. The bodies have been kept at the hospital’s morgue for autopsy. More than 50 people have died in violence unleashed to enforce a nationwide indefinite transport blockade by the BNP-Jamaat alliance since Jan 5. Most deaths have been due to burns suffered during fire-bombing at vehicles by BNP and Jamaat activists. When asked about the identity of the two killed at Kattherpool, Mufti Mahmud Khan said: “Their actions indicate they were involved in lobbing petrol bombs and other acts of violence and sabotage.” He said a revolver, a pistol, five round of ammunitions, petrol bombs and handmade bombs were recovered from the spot.– bdnews24.com
