At least two children were killed and three others sustained burn injuries in a gas pipeline explosion in Hathazari upazila on Wednesday. Three-year-old Tanim and Razia Sultana, 11, who received 80 per cent burn injuries, succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) early Thursday.
Sub-Inspector Zahirul Islam, in-charge of CMCH police camp, said five people including Tanim and Razia received burn injuries in an explosion of gas pipeline at a house of one Selim Mia at Aman Bazar in Hathazari upazila on Wednesday. The injured-Sonia Akhter, 26,
mother of Tanim and her one-year-old daughter Meem, and Rubi Akhter, 15–are undergoing treatment at the burn unit of CMCH.
Nuree Alam Mina, superintendent of Chattogram Police, said the gas pipeline was part of the Karnaphuli distribution line.
