Two cousins were killed as a boat capsized in the Mahananda river at Ghoraoakhia union of Shibganj upazila on Friday morning.
The deceased were identified as Masud Rana, 11, son of Bablu Ali and Wahed Ali, 15, son of Anarul Islam, residents of Pardhumi Hayatpur village of the upazila.
Nurul Islam, deputy director of Chapainawabganj Fire Service, said that a grass-laden boat carrying 10 passengers, including Masud and Wahed, sank in the river adjacent to Ansarer ghat area around 9am, leaving the duo missing. Later, a diver team of Rajshahi Fire Service rushed to the spot and retrieved the bodies around 1pm.
