Two passengers died as an ambulance fell into a roadside ditch in Mitra Kalibari area on Hemayetpur-Manikganj regional highway early Saturday.
The deceased were identified as Shahin Pramanik and his nephew Rafik Khan of Shilarchar area under Charbhadrasan upazila of Faridpur district.
Sub-Inspector (SI) of Manikganj Police Station, Lutfar Rahman said a Faridpur-bound ambulance fell into the roadside ditch carrying five passengers from Gabtoli bus terminal after its driver lost control over its
steering in Mitra Kalibari area at 3:00 am, leaving the passengers dead on the spot.
The driver, helper of the ambulance and three passengers managed to get out of the vehicle but the two, who were sitting on the back seat, could not come out of the vehicle.
Local people rushed to the spot and informed the Fire Service. The rescue team of the Fire Service reached the spot immediately and recovered the bodies from the ambulance. The bodies were sent to Manikganj 250-bed hospital for postmortem.
