Members of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) in a drive arrested two fake currency traders with huge counterfeit notes worth about Taka 30 lakh from Kotwali area in the city on Thursday.
The arrested were identified as Mohammad Anwar Hossain, 32, son of Abdur Sukkur, and Jahed Hossain, 22, son of Shamsul Islam, both hailed from Hazipara area under Amirabad upazila of the district.
Mohammad Shahid-ullah, deputy commissioner of Detective Branch of CMP told BSS that they detained them from New market area under Kotwali thana and seized a huge counterfeit notes of Taka 1,000 and Taka 500 denominations worth about Taka 30 lakh while they were waiting for exchanging the fake notes in the said area at 11 pm on Wednesday night.
The arrestees confessed that they had been running business of fake notes in the port city for long in guise of businessman.
