Two Bangladesh-origin German citizens were detained with nine pistols at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) on Tuesday.
The arrested persons have been identified as Anisul Islam and Monir Ben Ali, RAB official said.
A joint team of Rapid Action Battalion and Customs Department in a drive detained Monir soon after his landing from an Emirates Airlines flight around 10:00am, said Assistant
Director of RAB Media and Legal Wing Mizanur Rahman Bhuiyan. Law enforcers later picked up Anisul from the Green Channel area as per Monir’s information, the RAB official said. Customs Officials found the firearms in a carton when they frisked Anisul and Manir after their arrival, said Sohel Rahman, Joint Commissioner of the Customs.
When the detainees claimed those objects as toys, Customs Officials called the expertise of Rapid Action Battalion and confirmed they were guns, he said.
“We will send these firearms to Criminal Investigation Department for ballistic tests and till the reports come, the detainees will be in our custody,” he added.
Legal action will be taken against them if they found guilty, he further said.
