Customs officials seized 81 gold bars, weighing 10 Kilograms at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in Dhaka early Tuesday. The Customs Authority arrested also two persons in this connection.
The arrested men have been identified as Ala Uddin, 31, and Shahin Alam, 27, Customs Official said.
Deputy Director of Airport Customs Intelligence Mostafizur Rahman confirmed the matter and said that Customs Officials searched Ala Uddin’s body and found 64 gold bars with him after his arrival in a flight from Doha of Qatar at around 6:00am.
In another drive, APBn arrested Shahin with 17 gold bars. He was a passenger of a flight of United Arab Emirates Airlines which landed Tuesday morning, the official said.
“A total of 81 gold bars worth about Tk five crore have been seized ,” he said.
He further said that two separate cases were lodged with the Airport Police Station in these connections.
