Two get life in bank-guard murder case

Two persons were convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment by a trial tribunal here on Sunday for their involvement in the murder of bank-guard Abdullah Al Mamun in the district.
The convicted persons are Azad Ali, 40, and Kabil Hossain, 35. They were also fined Taka 20,000 each, in default, to suffer one year more in jail.
Another Sazzad Ali, 45, was sentenced to 10 years jail and fined Taka 10,000, in default, to suffer four months more behind the bars as he was found an accomplice in the murder.
In the verdict, five other accused were acquitted as the charges brought against them couldn’t be proved.
After examining the recorded depositions of prosecution witnesses and other relevant evidences judge of the Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal Shirin Kabita Akhter pronounced the verdict in their presence.
The prosecution story, in brief, is that the accused persons killed Abdullah Al Mamun, a night-guard of Brac Bank, at Kholabona village under Paba Upazila in the district as sequel to previous enmity over a piece of disputed land on October 16, 2013.
Father of the victim Wazed Ali had lodged a case with Paba Police Station on the following day. Upon completion of investigation, police pressed charges accusing eight persons.
On behalf the state, Special Public Prosecutor Entajul Haque conducted the case in association with Advocate Hamidul Haque while advocates Ekramul Haque and Bazley Towhid Al Hassan defended the accused.
