A court here on Tuesday convicted two people and sentenced them to life term imprisonment for killing a woman in 2009.
The court also fined the lifers-Rabiul Islam, son of Julmat Ali and also former husband of the deceased, and Saidul Islam, son of Monnaf Ali, residents of Kaurael village in Tarash upazila-Tk10, 000 each, in default to suffer six months more RI.
Among them, Saidul was tried in absentia.
According to the prosecution, Shilpi Khatun, daughter of Soleman Hossain, a resident of Kaurael village, was killed by Rabiul and Saidul on June 12, 2009 over previous enmity.
Soleman Hossain, father of Shilpi, filed a case with Tarash Police Station accusing 10 people, including Rabiul and Saidul, in this connection on the following day.
Later, police submitted the charge sheet against Rabiul and Saidul.After examining the records and witnesses, Additional District and Session Judge Dr Eman Ali Sheikh handed down the verdict.
