Two economic zones to be set up in Jessore

The Government has taken an initiative to set up at least two economic zones in Jessore. Primary sightseeing work has already been made in this regard.
The information was revealed by Paban Chowdhury, Executive Chairman, Bangladesh Economic Zone Authority (BEZA) at a views exchange with journalists and government official held at Jessore Circuit House conference room on Monday evening.
The BEZA chief, in the views exchange meeting, told that primary steps have been taken to establish two economic zones at Jessore Sadar and Jhikargachha upazila. Some 900 acres of land will probably acquire in this regard. The proposal is underway to submit to the prime minister.
He told that the government is in moral wants to establish a total of 100 economic zones across the country to develop the standard of socio-economic situation of the people of the country. ‘Jessore has the potentials for establishing 4 economic zones,’ he added,’ we have completed sightseeing for two economic zones preliminary.’ Jessore could be the third largest industrial zone after Dhaka and Chittagong, the BEZA executive chairman further said.
The meeting was attended among others by Ashraf Uddin, Deputy Commissioner, Jessore, Mazedur Rahman, Deputy Director, local government department, Rezai Rabbi, Nezarat Deputy Collector, Jessore, Jahid Hasan Tukun, President, Jessore Press Club and senior journalists Ekram-ud- Daullah, Rukunuddaullah, Saifur Rahman Saif, M Ayub, Sazed Rahman and Jewel Mridha.
The BEZA chairman also informed that sightseeing survey for some 94 economic zones has already been made.
