A Chittagong court on Sunday sentenced two drug traders to different terms of rigorous imprisonment (RI) in a case filed for possessing and trading contraband Yaba tablets in 2016, court sources said.
The Metropolitan Session Judge Moha-mmad Shah-e-Nur, sentenced seven years imprisonments to Mohammad Shamim, 32, hailed from Petanga thana and six years imprisonment to Abul Kalam Azad, 28, hailed from Karnaphuli thana in the city.
The court also fined the convicts Taka 5000 each, in default to suffer one month more imprisonment. The prosecution story is in brief that a team of Narcotic Control Department (NCD) arrested them with 3400 pieces contraband Yaba tablets on May 13 in 2016 from Shahjahan Hotel area under Sadarght thana in the city. Later, the NCD team filed a case against them with Sadarght thana on the same day. Police submitted charge-sheet against them on June 12 in 2016 while the court framed charges on September 22 in 2016.
The court examined a total of six prosecution witnesses out of 13 and found the accused person guilty, court sources said.
