Two cases nearing end at 2 tribunals

Trials of crimes against humanity have gained momentum lately as the two tribunals till Thursday have pronounced judgments in 19 cases, four from the start of this year.
Two cases, one each in two tribunals, are nearing completion as closing arguments are being placed in both the cases.
Deference in Patuakhali Razakar commander Forkan Mallik’s case is placing arguments and the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-2 is set to hear the matter again on June 14.
On the other hand, the ICT-1 has set June 15 to hear the closing arguments in the case against Bagerhat Razakar trio Sheikh Sirajul Haque alias Siraj Master, Khan Akram Hossain, and Abdul Latif Talukder.
Earlier on June 9, the ICT-1 sentenced Kishoreganj Razakar commander Hasan Ali to death for his crimes against humanity. The tribunal found him guilty of five out of the total six charges.
In an unprecedented move, the first tribunal said the execution can be carried out by hanging or by firing squad and it is the government, who will decide the manner of the execution.
The ICT-2 in its last judgment, sentenced Chapainawabganj Razakar duo Mahidur Rahman and Afasar Hossain Chutu to imprisonment to death on May 20.
