Two unnatural deaths took place in the city’s Zurain and Bashabo areas on Saturday. The deceased have been identified as Nur Hossain, 28, and Sabbir Hossain alias Rony, 18, police said.
Quoting the locals, Kadomtali Police Station’s Sub-Inspector (SI) Krishna Chandra Mittra said that police found a man lying in a drain near a bidi factory at East Zurain around 1:00pm and sent him to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) for treatment. But the doctors declared him dead on arrival. He was later identified as Nur Hossain.
A police official said that Nur was mercilessly beaten with iron rods and the tendons of his hands and legs were found cut. “We are looking into the matter seriously,” he said
At Bashabo, a youth committed suicide with the ceiling fan in their residence on Saturday. Abdul Kader, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Sabujbagh Police Station said that Rony’s father Azhar Ali rebuked him on Friday afternoon and the family members found his hanging body from the ceiling fan at about 1:30am and informed the police.
Police went to the spot and recovered the body and sent it to DMCH morgue for autopsy, the SI said.
