The high commands of the two big political parties – AL and BNP-are in tremendous pressure in selecting their candidates for the upcoming 11th national election as a good number of aspirants of both the parties have submitted nomination papers for each constituency.
The main opposition BNP has sold a total of 4,580 nomination papers for 300 constituencies.
On the other hand, the ruling Awami League has sold 4,023 nomination papers among the party aspirants.
Sources said, the ruling Awami League is comparatively in ease position to select right nominees as it has prepared two separate lists of probable candidates for the 11th Parliamentary polls.
When contacted, AL Presidium Member Colonel (rtd) Muhammad Faruk Khan told The New Nation on Sunday, “It is sure that a good number of aspirants submitted nomination forms in our party. But we have conducted several surveys earlier to select the right person in every constituency. As per those survey reports we will easily select our candidates.”
He also said, it is a really that some constituencies have several eligible candidates which may create some complexity. But as a politician every aspirants have sacrifice mentality for the sake of party’s victory.
He said the AL is ready to consider 70 to 80 seats for its alliance partners.
The other leaders of AL also said in past two terms many of the leaders enjoyed party nominations. They may sacrifice for others this time.
Besides, the party is ready to give around 70 seats to its two alliance partners.
When contacted, BNP Standing Committee Member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy told The New Nation, “As a big political party BNP is always ready to contest national polls. The party has the lists of those leaders who have popularity and capability to win in his seat. So, it would not be a problem to select candidates.”
He also expressed the hope that his party leaders would sacrifice their personal interest for the victory of the ‘Sheaf of Paddy’ symbol in this ‘historic’ election.
Meanwhile, the BNP started taking interview of nomination aspirants from Sunday at the party chief’s Gulshan office.
In BNP, all of the aspirants are waiting for the last 10 years to get candidacy from party. In this view, the BNP is facing tough situation to select single candidate in each constituency.
Besides, the BNP is ready to give around 70 seats to its two alliance paretners. BNP insiders said, the party high command is trying to manage the aspirants to select the right person to win as they are facing huge pressures from the nomination seekers.
